Accommodation:  Finca los Romeros enjoys a lovely rural setting overlooking Cape Trafalgar.  It has seven, simply furnished but comfortable bedrooms.  All rooms are twin-bedded, have en-suite bathroom and a shaded patio with views of the sea.  The accommodation is set in pleasant gardens and there is an outdoor pool in which to cool off after a few hours in the saddle.  You can then relax at the poolside bar and enjoy a glass of Fino or a cool Spanish beer.

The Horses We aim to match each rider with a suitable horse for their riding ability and preference. The horses are local Andalucian types, renowned for their wonderful temperament and spirit. Some we have bred here over the years. The horses range in age from 4 years old providing fun rides and steady older favorites who have been with us for many years.

Riders must be able to ride at walk, trot and canter.  The rides are at a steady pace but can include some long, thrilling canters and beach gallops.  We can also cater for less experienced or nervous riders by arrangement.

Guides:  All rides are led by the owner or one of the team of experienced British guides who know the area well and will ensure that the riders have fun but safe riding.  Wherever possible, a second guide also rides with the group.

High standards of horse care are maintained.  The horses are looked after by qualified grooms but, if they wish to, riders are welcome to join in helping to look after their horse.

Meals:  Dinner and breakfast are taken at the Finca.  Lunches are also served at the Finca but can be a picnic or barbecue taken en route.  Dinners are relaxed and sociable affairs where everyone sits around one large table on the terraced dining room.  Being so close to sea you can expect plenty of fresh seafood and other tasty Spanish dishes such as gazpacho and paella.  Vegetarians are also well catered for.  Wine, soft drinks and after dinner liqueurs are included with meals.  There are also free drinks at our poolside bar.  The only drinks that you have to pay for are those at bars along the trails.

Other activities/non-riders:  After the mid-afternoon lunches there is plenty of free time for exploring, lazing in the gardens or enjoying the nearby beach.  Riders can help with the horses, including the mares and foals, or brush up on stable management.  There are lots of options for non-riders.  We have mountain bikes for hire and can arrange for a car hire that will allow you to visit the historic hill-top town of Vejer de la Frontera, Tarifa or the City of Cadiz and surrounding province.  Walking, cycling, water sports, surfing/wind surfing, golf, sight-seeing and bird watching are popular pastimes for visitors to this area.

Optional excursions:  Riding is on five days each week.  On the horses' rest day you join the escorted trip to Jerez de la Frontera to see a performance of the world famous Royal Andalucian Equestrian School.  After the show you will have the chance to sample different sherries from the traditional bodegas in the town and visit the local tack shops, followed by lunch in a tapas bar.

Climate:  Summers on the Costa de la Luz are long and hot while winters are wonderfully mild.  Over the winter months the average temperature does not drop below 13C.  Spring and autumn are excellent seasons for riding with an average daily high of 16C in April and November and 20C in May and October.  In the height of summer, the average temperature is 25C though in fact it often reaches 35C, making the refreshing breezes that blow in off the Atlantic very welcome.
